 | Disclaimer: Pet peeve of mine... people who compliment you to get you to talk to them. So annoying! I don't care if you think I'm pretty or not.. I've don't know you... so why should I care if you think I'm pretty or ugly or anything? Maybe if we talked for a few minutes first I'd appreciate your admiration. For examples of what not to say? Check my guestbook tags *sighs*
Oh, and if you think saying all this makes me "the worst woman in the world" (someone was kind enough to email me to tell me that) then you're entitled to your opinion.. Solution? Don't talk to me. On the other hand, if you totally get what I'm saying (you're probably female) please by all means, I AM on here to meet people... drop me a line.
Since people were whining about not knowing what to say to me since I don't want one line compliments.... I decided to write this:
Stuff I like to talk about:
1. My job. I work for the Navy. No, I'm not IN the Navy, I'm just employed by them. Yes that makes me a government worker. I have nice benefits, and every other Friday off. It's a cushy job, but I feel satisfied with it for now. I'm a performance engineer. I work on catapult launch systems that are used on aircraft carriers. I've been out on the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and will probably be doing more trips in the future.
I've lived at the Jersey shore since moving down here. I had a cute little apartment AT the beach but I am currently packing to move to a new place that's on a river near here. Ironically in a town called Brick. I say ironically beacuse where I went to college, RIT, was entirely made of bricks and it's kind of something we joked about a lot. So I've left the "brick city" to live in "brick township."
Anyway, the job market right now is pretty sh!tty, so I just count my blessings that I have any income at all.
2. Talk to me about my cats. I have two. They are my best boys. I have lots of pictures of them.
3. My hobbies...
*I like to ski.. not much snow yet this winter
*I like rollercoaters. I want to design them some day (that relates to the #1 too)
*I like camping and being outdoors. I was in the outing club at school.
*I play the saxophone.. but I don't really like to play Jazz that much. The voice clip in my profile here is of me playing my bamboo sax. Nothing fancy, just a quick sound byte.
*Keep asking, there's a lot more that I like.
4. I'm deaf, or I suppose hard of hearing, but saying 'deaf' is just simpler. I can hear some, I read lips a lot. In a quiet situation you probably wouldn't know I was guessing, and most of my friends forget that I can't always hear them. So, unfortunately, I spend a lot of time not knowing what's being talked about. I need to become more agressive in asking people to repeat things... I hate interrupting though.
I like talking about being deaf, so don't be afraid to ask questions. I just wrote a rant about hearing aids, so I thought I'd post it here.
The problem with hearing aids is that they can't provide any directional information. When you hear thigns, your brain also picks up on where the sounds are all coming frmo and that allows you to have conversations in noisey places. Hearing aids are no better than a tape recorder. Everythin they amplify goes into my ear from exactly the same location . So I can't filter anything. I rely a lot on reading lips.
The other problem I have is that people think that simply making things louder will help.. but that's kinda like giving someone who needs glasses a magnafying glass and expecting them to be able to see perfectly...

 | WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A PARTNER? |
 | I appreciate people who know their stuff. However, I'm a good teacher too, but I appreciate people who are quick to learn.
Do you know how to paddle a kayak? Do you want to learn? How about inline skating? I'm a certified instructor. Ever flown a 60 square foot kite that's controlled by four lines? It's fun, let me show you. How about skiing? I started at age four. Or snowboarding? I could use some work at it still, lets learn together. |
